The Student Assessment Guide and Learning Plan describes the evidence required to be competent in this unit.

You can track your progress by comparing it against unit requirements and at every stage of your learning and study. You can also get support from your iTAFE mentor and advisor.

Study Guide

There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the unit Provide leadership in community services. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.



Vocational Education and Training online courses are another choice that you can make to assist you to further understand this unit.

Each session is accompanied by a set of colour-coded resources. Please review the resources before attending each VOOC. After the VOOC, you should record your thoughts, ideas and suggestions about the session and share them with other learners. We have provided links to blog, forum and sharing tools but you can also use your own methods. VOOCs are not compulsory but they are an opportunity to gather evidence of your learning by participating with others.

Note: Provide leadership in community services will only have 3 VOOCs


Session 1 -Develop effective leadership role - Blue tiles

This includes

  • Identifying roles, responsibilities and parameters for exercising influence and negotiate with key people in organisation and community to ensure support
  • Establishing authority and accountability according to organisation's guidelines and community requirements
  • Assessing factors that will impact on leadership style and role and address in developing individual and organisation practice

  • What are the roles, responsibilities and parameters used to exercise, influence and negotiate with key people in organisation and community to ensure leadership support?
  • Why is it necessary and what are the benefits of establishing authority and accountability according to organisation's guidelines and community requirements?

 

Session 2 -Provide direction - Pink tiles 

This include
  • Developing and maintaining consultation structures to support coordinated planning and decision-making
  • Developing and maintaining strategic alliances with key people to maximise personal and organisation effectiveness
  • Routinely modelling and promoting effective communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Implementing appropriate continuous improvement processes to ensure ongoing effectiveness of work
A few points to think about for your blog:

  • What consultation structures could be developed by an effective leader to support coordinated planning and decision-making?
  • Why is necessary for a leader to employ effective communication strategies including modelling and promoting effective communication ? 
  • How could a leader ensure effectiveness of work?




Session 3 -Promote community work and maintain quality performance- Purple tiles  

This includes: 
 
 
  • Researching and analysing factors that influence effectiveness of performance
  • Developing and implementing strategies to promote effectiveness of community work
  • Researching and establishing strategies to develop and maintain quality performance
  • Develop, negotiate, promote performance standards and requirements and use to guide organisation and personal work delivery
  • Negotiating implementation of changes to practices, policies and procedures and promote to gain support



A few points to think about for your blog:

 
  • Why is it necessary for a leader to research and analyse factors that influence the effectiveness of performance? How would this research benefit the service?
  • What would  the consequences be of a poorly negotiated change in a service?
